What to Watch After Stranger Things

Anyone who’s watched the Netflix original series StrangerThings will find themselves nostalgic for the 1980’s, cassette tapes, arcades, big hair, and the now classic movies that influenced every kid who saw them.
Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Maya Hawke, Natalia Dyer, Andrey Ivchenko, Dacre Montgomery, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, and Priah Ferguson in Stranger Things (2016)
Most of us 80’s and even early 90’s kids longed to find pirate gold, fly our bikes over town, and save the town from evil, yet hilarious witches. Stranger Things brought back all of those childhood adventures and the feeling that while being a kid was hard, it was also amazing, adventurous, and inspiring. Being an adult can be all of those things, even if we are not helping neighborhood kids defeat monsters.
So, if after watching all three seasons that Netflix has to offer leaves you wanting more of similar adventures then here are five suggestions for you.
1. The Goonies (1985) Much like Stranger Things , young kids and teenagers, often on bikes, save their town. They encounter bullies, escaped convicts, an unlikely friend, and a pirate ship filled with treasure.
The Goonies (1985)
2. E.T.  The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) More kids on bikes, but saving a sad little alien from the government and helping him get back home, while teaching him about Earth and Skittles candy.

3. Hocus Pocus (1993 ) Not quite an 80’s movie, but still captures the feeling of kids having an epic adventure despite living in a small town. Like the afore mentioned films, the kids find themselves needing to save someone, the entire town of Salem Massachusetts from witches resurrected from the with trial days, Despite the dark sounding theme, it is a hilariously fun movie.
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy in Hocus Pocus (1993)

4. Trollhunters :Tales of Arcadia (2016)  While not made or set anywhere near the 80’s this Netflix original based of a book with the same title, evokes many of the feelings and themes of the previous listings .  Kids on bikes join forces with trolls living beneath their town in order to ward off evil trolls. The show is geared towards older kids, but story and humor will appeal to adults as well.

5. 3Below: Tales of Arcadia (2018) This is both a spin off and companion show of Trollhunters. While some of the main and supporting cast make appearances the show focus on two teens we met briefly in the last season of TH, Aja and Krel who happen to be actual space aliens and have fled a military coup on their planet and are hiding on Earth disguised as humans.  Trouble follows them to their new home and they along aside their new friends defend it.

Some of the suggestions are classics and chances are most have seen them; if you have not, give them or the newer suggestions a chance. If you like Stranger Things, you will probably like at least one of these. Enjoy!
